Pilates is a holistic exercise system that works by combining slow and powerful yet precise movements with specific breathing patterns to improve postural alignment, strength, flexibility and muscular balance. The emphasis on building a balanced body is an important concept in Pilates and promotes optimal movement of the natural body mechanics from deep within the core to the extremities of the limbs.
The internal organs, cardiovascular and respiratory system will also benefit from a more efficient function – important for maintaining good general health. In recent years more and more top professional athletes and performing artists are now turning to Pilates to enhance their performance. The exercises are layered progressively and are therefore gentle whilst also being very effective for people of all ages and abilities.
